Dr. Sangeeta Shah, a native of India, migrated with her husband to the United States in 1971. As a trained pathologist, she served in the U.S. Army as a Major in the Medical Corps at Fort Polk, Louisiana. Her military service was her gateway into Cajun country. She served as a director of the pathology department at the University Medical Center in Lafayette, Louisiana for ten years. During her pathology career, she took further training in hematopathology, helped establish a breast clinic at UMC, and served on various committees.
